Codex Caioni, a gypsy wedding day in Transylvania by XVIII-21 le Baroque Nomade
Gypsy Wedding is an amazing journey of musical discovery led by Jean-Christophe Fritsch and his ensemble XVII-21 le Baroque Nomade, with the support of the BNP Paribas Foundation.
Drawn from a miraculously preserved mid-17th century manuscript, the work is lively and colourful testimony to the musical life of Transylvania at the time, which was rich in both high-brow and folk influences.
Gypsy Wedding is an opportunity to restore Transylvania, cradle of many cultures, to the canon of the European baroque music after centuries of neglect. A recording is now available on the Arion label under the title Codex Caioni.
