The BNP Paribas Foundation and the new circus arts

Gulko – Cahin Caha Company

Born in the United States and trained in dance, circus and experimental theatre in Montreal in the 1980's, Daniel Gulko was impressed by encounters with the Czech Ctibor Turba and Japan's Kazuyoshi Kushida. In France since 1993, he collaborated in the Pocheros company before creating his own, Cahin Caha, in 1998.
The Foundation's path crossed with that of Gulko, Cahin Caha and the new circus arts with Cahin Caha's first performance, Chien crU (1999). This circus is accessible and open to all forms of interpretation and appreciation. It is a 'cross-breed' or hybrid; vibrant, lyrical, dense and loaded with emotions.
In 2003, Cahin Caha managed to unearth little known works by the famous brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm to create GrimM, a performance that was a world away from childhood fables but which perfectly illustrated the cruel beauty of nostalgia. The partnership will be coming to an end in 2005.
